Honorius IV, pope (d.1287)

Biography
Kelly, Oxford Dictionary of Popes, 204-05: Honorius was born Giacomo Savelli in Rome in 1210. He was grandnephew of Honorius III and had a brother, Pandulf. He studied at Paris, during which time he held a prebend and canonry at Châlons-sur-Marne. He later received the benefice of rector of the church of Berton, Norwich diocese. In 1261 he was created cardinal-deacon of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, and appointed papal prefect in Tuscany and captain of the papal army. He was elected on 2 April 1285, ordained priest on 19 May and was consecrated the following day at St Peter’s. He died at Rome on 3 April 1287.
