Description
Henry, abbot of Arbroath, and David de Betune, write to W., and R., bishops of St Andrews and Glasgow, Sirs Duncan, earl of Fife, Alexander Comyn, earl of Buchan, constable and justiciar of Scotia, John Comyn and James, Steward of Scotland, guardians of the realm of Scotland established by common counsel, reciting a letter from the said guardians to them. “W[illiam] and R[obert], bishops of St Andrews and Glasgow, Duncan, earl of Fife, Alexander Comyn of Buchan, constable and justiciar of Scotia, John Comyn and James Stewart of Scotland, Guardians of the realm of Scotland by common council, write to Henry, abbot of Arbroath, Robert Cameron of Baledgarno, David de Betun, knights, and Master Ralph of Dundee, noting that they have established to them all, by inquiry of faithful men of the kingdom that a certain pasture pertains to the land of Scrin, which is called Salmanmore, in the tenement of Panmure (ANG), as it was on the day which their lord, King Alexander, died. And if the position of Christina de Maule may be changed, they ask that the addressees return justice to the same Christina for the pasture which she had on the day which the said king died. They thus command and instruct all the men of the realm to whom these letters shall come that they may answer to the abbot, Robert, David and Master Ralph, or two of them, during the month of the feast of St Michael next.” They note that Sirs Ingram de Balliol, William of Brechin, Henry de Gourlay, Robert de Betune, knights, and others on Monday before the feast of Blessed Luke the Evangelists 1286, made an inquisition by thirteen suitors of the baronies of the earldom of Angus and others of the country to examine the said case. Following the tenor of their mandate, Christina has been restored the said pasture. Sealed by their seals along with the abovementioned men.
