- Description
- King Henry writes to King Alexander [III], acknowledging the messages sent by his envoy, John of Denmuir, regarding the money which Henry owes Alexander. On account of the peace between himself and the king of France, his expedition against the rebels in Wales, and the matter of Sicily, he is involved in great expenses, and is unable to pay it at present. Regarding a writing made between them, which King Alexander wishes restored, King Henry can do nothing in the absence of his nobles and counsellors. As to Alexander’s request that King Henry would not object to his coronation, Henry thinks the present an unsuitable time for it, but when a better season arrives, will act as befits his honour. In respect to Alexander’s wish that Henry would not assist the king of Man, Henry informs Alexander that he will not oppose him in doing justice.
