Description
Robert, called the Frenchman, of Lamington, son and heir of Henry, son and heir of William, formerly called of the Ardoch, by his own will, and in the presence of lord Alexander, by the grace of God, king of Scots, and the magnates of the kingdom located at Roxburgh castle on the 13th of June 1246, acknowledged by speech and by the present charter that neither he, his heir, nor his assigns have rights in Greater Ardoch and Lesser Ardoch (LAN), and by rod and staff, he returned, quitclaimed, resigned and renounced, and by his present charter established in public the said quitclaim resignation or renunciation recognizing that the said land is the ancient right and patrimony of the blessed Mary and the blessed Malo and that all rights to the land pertain to Kelso Abbey. Additionally, in the presence of the lord King and the magnates that he will not go against this promise. If it may happen that he or any of his heirs or assigns go against the promise, he wishes and by the present charter submits him and his heirs or assigns to the arbitration of the abbot of Kelso or the convent and to the jurisdiction of the lord bishop of Glasgow, or whichever bishop and archdeacon in whichever diocese they may happen to be, in order that they may be declared excommunicate and they will pay a penalty of 200 pounds of sterling to the fabric of the monastery of Kelso and the same sum of money to the church of Glasgow.
