Description
Alexander de Balliol, lord of Cavers, for the health of his soul and of Sir Guy, his brother, has given, granted and by his charter established to Dryburgh Abbey, half the wood of Gladswood (in Cavers, ROX?) which formerly belonged to Sir John de Vaux (sic for Balliol) and Lady Dervorguilla, his spouse, with half the fodder of the same wood, to hold of him and his heirs in feu ferme, rendering yearly 40s., that is, half at Pentecost and the other half at the feast of St Martin in hyeme, for all secular service and custom. He warrants this against all men and if he cannot, he shall pay the abbot and convent 100 marks within a month after the loss of warranty for damages and expenses incurred.
