Adam of Bathgate, master, sheriff of Roxburgh (d.1243)

Biography
Watt, Graduates, 22: Adam of Bathgate (de Baggatte in Watt) first occurs as Master in the 1220s in charters relating to ROX. He occurs as a witness to charters of William Bondington, bishop of Glasgow, though not always as Master. He appears to be listed among burgesses of Roxburgh but is styled Master when soon afterwards he was made sheriff of Roxburgh. He is mentioned in this office in 1237-8. He was buried in 1243 at Melrose Abbey.
