- Be it remembered at the lord king has appointed on 2 April [1296] at Berwick, that Sir Robert de Clifford should have in his company 100 men-at-arms and 500 footmen under certain terms. He must do his utmost to take hostages in the forest of Selkirk, the moor of Cavers, Liddesdale, Eskdale, ‘Ewisdale’, Annandale, Moffatdale, Nithsdale and Galloway, and other lands which have come to the peace of the king.
