- Adam of Bondington, clerk of the king of England and overlord of Scotland, writes to Alan, bishop of Caithness, chancellor of Scotland, deputed guardian of the realm of Scotland, noting that he has accepted by the hand of John de Walkingham and has from the nobleman Sir Alexander de Balliol, chamberlain of Scotland, £10 for 30 days granted to him by the same king in part payment of 28 marks, which the same Sir Alexander out to pay him for eight weeks, calculated from Sunday after the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin up to Sunday before the feast of Blessed Luke the Evangelist, as contained in letters patent of the king. Which £10 he quitclaims to the same Sir Alan, chamberlain of Scotland [sic, Alexander?].
