Document 2/50/5 (Reg. Romeyn, ii, no. 1389)

Description
His clerk, R. de Vavasur, [official of York in Whithorn] writes to his lord J[ohn, archbishop of York], noting the death of the bishop of Whithorn and the discord over the jurisdiction of the vacant see between the chapter and archdeacon, the chapter asserting that jurisdiction devolves to them, the archdeacon claiming the contrary; finally, not wishing to hinder an election, with the consent of both parties, a certain vicar named Walter was put in charge; and afterwards, a certain Master Thomas of Galloway, also called of Dalton, was elected bishop.
