- Description
- Robert, bishop of Glasgow, by the unanimous consent of his chapter, gives and grants in perpetuity, and makes firm by this his present charter to Melrose Abbey the church of Ochiltree (WLO), with the teinds, offerings, returns, emoluments and fruits, both great and small, pertaining to the church, by right or custom, or that ought to pertain, in free, pure and perpetual alms, for the sole use of the monks, for their profit and conversion following the departure or death of Master Simon of Spalding, rector of the church, to be held and had by the monks and their successors in perpetuity. The abbot and convent, whenever it may happen that the church is vacant, will present to the bishop and his successors a suitable vicar who will have the cure of souls of the parish, and he will have ten pounds and ten shillings every year by the abbot and convent, from the fruits of the church assigned for his portion, which portion the bishop values sufficient for his sustenance, and the vicar will also answer to the bishop and his successors for all the burdens of the church in relation to the support of the ordinary.
