Document 2/12/33 (Holy. Lib., no. 83)

Description
Henry, bishop of Whithorn, has inspected the instruments of his predecessors relating to the donations and grants of the churches of Kelton and Balmaghie (KCB) which the abbot and convent of Holyrood in his diocese have made available, [and] he establishes the donations and grants of the churches by the tenor of the present [charter]. The bishop states that if a fault should arise in the instruments of his predecessors, [which were] reliquished and conveyed to the abbot and convent relating to the churches, he gives, grants and by the present charter establishes all the defects [to Holyrood], wanting to give them full reign over the churches, with all their pertinents, since it should be pleasing [to them] to convert [the churches and their pertinents] completely for their own use. The abbot and convent, whoever they may be at the time, will provide suitable hired chaplains to serve at the churches of Kelton and Balmaghie which will be responsible to the bishop, and he wishes and ordains [that the churches] are to be exempt from certain specified obligations, including onerous hospitality, etc.
