Document 3/203/2 (Melr. Lib., nos. 354, 411)
- Description
- William of Durham, the knight, states that he is to receive and to have from the abbot and convent of Melrose, fourteen marks of good sterling, for a certain burgage in the villa of Peebles (PEB), agreed to and sold by him to the monks, which burgage belonged to the late Thomas Lillie of Peebles, [and] which burgage he acknowledges is to be held from him, and by the present charter, is to be obliged, to be warranted and to be made sufficiently secure for the money. And if it may happen that, God forbid, he fails in the aforesaid, he obligates himself, by the present charter, and all his movable and immovable goods, wherever they may be found, to be distrained according to the will of the monks or the king’s baillie, or to distrain the render of fourteen marks at the feast of St Martin in winter nearest following, and also for the restitution of all payments and expenses which may arise by the occasion of the aforesaid, without any opposition, quibbling or fraud.
