Document 4/4/22 (Arb. Lib., no. 334)

Description
An agreement between the former bishops of Saint Andrews and the abbots and convent of Arbroath concerning various purchases [and] sales, owed, deposited, borrowed, [and] entered into by contracts, because of the fiscal failure of the churches belonging to the monks of Arbroath in the diocese of Saint Andrews. On the Tuesday before the feast of Saint Luke the Evangelist in 1312, lord William, bishop of Saint Andrews personally appeared in the chapter of Arbroath with all the debtors from each side of the contracts, and he remitted and forgave, for him and his successors, all the petitions, obligations and actions from the lawsuits and other things which he and his church had against the abbot and convent of Arbroath, and all their other debt and arrears not rendered to him, all the way until the day of the completion of the present convention. However, he reserves the procurations and synodal dues which are owed to him and his successors by perpetual right. And Dom. Bernard, abbot of the monastery of Arbroath, and the convent of the same place remitted to the bishop and his successors, for them and their successors, all petitions, obligations and actions which they and their monastery of Arbroath had against the lord bishop and his predecessors by reason of debts, all the way to the day of the composition of the present agreement. They both renounce all documentation recording any arrangement between the pair.
