Document 2/64/24 (Arb. Lib., no. 313)

Description
Henry, abbot of Arbroath and the convent of the same place, have given, granted and by this their present charter established at feu-ferme to John, the chaplain, son of William of Cambo, their land in the villa of Crail (FIF) which Ralph of Cambo, grandfather of John, formerly held and possessed from the abbey, to be held and had by John and his heirs, or whoever he should wish to assign, without hospice. John will render to Arbroath three shillings of silver annually at the feast of Saint Martin in winter, and if John or his heirs should wish by necessity to sell or subinfeudate the land, he will first offer it to the monks, because without their special license, he is not able to sell it, nor is anyone able to buy it.
