Document 2/73/36 (Kel. Lib., no. 197)

Description
E (Waleran?), abbot of Kelso, and the convent of the same place, by the unanimous consent of their whole chapter, have given, granted and by this their present charter established to Reginald of Corra and his heirs, by title of exchange, all their land of Little Kype (LAN) with all its pertinents, etc. to be held and possessed from them without any secular petition or exaction, just as they held or were able to hold it at any time. For the land, Reginald and his heirs are to annually render to them one pound of cumin on the day of Saint Machutus at Lesmahagow. Additionally, the monks granted to Reginald for the whole time of his life, four chalders of wheat every year from the priory of Lesmahagow at two times (viz. two chalders at the feast of Saint Martin in winter and two chalders at the feast of the purification of the blessed Mary, without any delay), along with the honest sustenance of him and one servant in the victuals in their monasteries of Kelso or Lesmahagow. And after the death of Reginald, the abbot and convent will be free and immune from the procuration of wheat, but his heirs will render twenty shillings of sterling every year in perpetuity at the same place and times. The abbot and convent promise warrandice.
