William of Sprouston the chaplain, the late vicar of Mow, by the consent of Sir John de Vescy, his lord, for the salvation of the lord Alexander, the illustrious king of Scotland, and for the souls of all Alexander’s ancestors and successors, and for the salvation of Sir John de Vescy, his lord, and for the souls of all John’s ancestors and successors, and for the salvation of himself and for the souls of his father and his mother and all his benefactors has given, granted and made firm by this his present charter to Melrose Abbey all his land in the territory of Mow (ROX) which belonged to the late Amicia de Capella which Sir John de Vescy, his lord gave and made firm by his charter, by the right bounds by which he held or was able to hold the land, in free, pure and perpetual alms, with the progeny of the neyfs and their chattel, and with services, etc, and with all the service of the land of Thomas Palmer and the land of the late Henry of Mow, which Henry held by his gift, and with half the services of the land which belonged to the late Henry of Mow in Swindon from which land the abbot and convent infeft his nephew (nepos), Vedastus of Jedburgh, and with half the service of land of Simon of Blackdean and with half the service of the land of Thomas son of Avicia, etc.
