Description
Richard of Rule states that while the monks of Melrose may have been held to render twenty shillings annually to Sir William of Landells, his late lord, and his heirs for the land of Hownam (ROX) and the said monks by the assignment of Sir William rendered to him the said twenty shillings for a time, and finally while John of Landells, his lord, completely relaxed the said twenty shillings and by his charter quitclaimed them, Richard remitted and in perpetuity quitclaimed whichever right he had or was able to have in relation to the annual twenty shillings to the said monks.
