Description
Alexander, steward of Scotland, son of Walter the steward, has granted and by this his charter established to Melrose Abbey all that land which they held from Richard Wallace, namely Barmuir and ‘Godenech’ by the bounds which are contained in the charter of Richard which they have concerning the land, and additionally with all the liberties with the moor of ‘Carentabel’ and the land of Mauchline (AYR). Additionally, he grants and quitclaims for him and his heirs to the abbot and convent and their men all right and claim and all custom and rectitude and suit of his court and freedom to sell and to buy in whichever forum or place they may wish without annoyance and contradiction by him or his heirs or his baillies.
