Document 3/316/2 (Melr. Lib., no. 304)

Description
Thomas of Kilham son of Walter of Kilham has granted, given, set up, and by this his charter established to the monks of Melrose, in pure, free and perpetual alms, eight acres of arable land in the territory of Scotton (in Kilham, Northumberland) which he perambulated to them in the presence of good and honest men by stated bounds. He gave all the land between these bounds to the monks of Melrose to be had, held and utilised by their will in perpetuity with all the easements in the territory of Scotton pertaining to the land, namely pasture for two horses and 12 animals and 80 sheep. He gave this land to the monks to be held from him and his heirs free and quit from all terrestrial service and exaction and custom and demand. He gave that land to them in exchange and compensation for eight acres of land which Robert, his grandfather, gave to them by his charter and Walter, his father established.
