- Description
- Alexander of Chatto states that while the land of Rasawes (in Hownam, ROX) may belong to the abbot and monks of Melrose as the true lord, he sold a piece of it in a certain part of the land secured between the said bounds which he estimated to be his hereditary right. While it has been clearly well-known that he has no hereditary right in the said part, Alexander, by the counsel of his friends, renounced in perpetuity for him and his heirs all right he and his heirs had or were able to have or will be able to have in the said part of the land. For the observation of firm peace between him and the said monks he delineates the bounds between his land and the land of the monks by their common assent. He renounced all right and claim for him and his heirs relating to the aforesaid bounds in the year of grace 1226.
