Description
Walter son of Alan, steward of the lord king of Scotland, for the souls of his lords, the kings of Scotland, and for the salvation of himself, B[eatrice?], his wife, and all his ancestors and heirs, has given, granted and by this his present charter established to Melrose Abbey the territory of Mauchline (AYR) and the church of Saint Michael situated in it. He granted and by his charter established the whole aforesaid land to them by its bounds contained in his charter which the monks henceforth have, to be held and had free and quit from all terrestrial service and all custom, exaction and demand. Additionally, five marks are to be released each year to him and his heirs by the monks for the land following the tenor of his charter and the charter of his father.
