Description
Roger of Skelbrooke has granted, given and by this his charter established to Melrose Abbey, for the salvation and soul of his lord, Duncan son of Gilbert son of Fergus, and for the souls of all his ancestors and successors, and for the salvation of himself and all his relatives and heirs, in free, pure and perpetual alms, his fishery in mouth of the River of Don above ‘Harenam’ (AYR), one saltpan and one pan, wherever they may wish in his whole land of Greenan (AYR), and the timber of his nearby wood. Additionally, he granted to them one toft to be dwelled in, another toft below his castle of Greenan, a parcel of arable land and sufficient pasture for six oxen and ten cows. He granted and gave all this to the monks, free, quit and unbound from all terrestrial service, custom and secular exaction.
