Description
William, lord of Hume, son and heir of the noble man, Sir William, the knight, late lord of the villa of Hume, states that the controversy which was stirring between him, on the one part, and Sir Henry, abbot of Kelso and the convent of Kelso, on the other, concerning certain lands, liberties of the lands and other things which the monk held and had in his tenement of Dunbar with the church of his villa of Hume (BWK), and additionally, concerning a certain parcel of land lying in the outer part of the territory of Hume which is called 'Pullys', by stated bounds, with the buildings constructed and established in the same place, which land the abbot and convent held by the gift of Lady Ada of Courtney, daughter of the noble man, Sir Patrick, the late Earl of Dunbar, and the late lady of the villa of Hume, after many altercations and disagreements between them, has been assessed carefully by William, and he assessed, investigated and understood their confession, and he confesses that the abbot and convent of Kelso have been unjustly annoyed and troubled by him concerning all the lands which they held and had in the aforesaid _villa_ of Hume. Henceforth, he renounced and renounces by this his charter all rights, if he had or was able to have in the aforesaid lands of the abbot and convent in the _villa_ of Hume. William swore by touching the holy gospels that from now on he will not presume to be involved in anything goes against the rights and liberties of the Abbot and convent, but as much as he is able, he will watch over their rights and liberties. He subjects himself to a fine of 100s. if he goes against the aforesaid.
