- Description
- Adam son of Edulf has given, granted, and by this his charter established, for the souls of Sir Alan of Galloway and of his lord the earl of Atholl, Thomas his (Alan’s) brother and of Sir Roland their father, and of Lady Elena their mother, and others, in pure and perpetual alms, to Newbattle Abbey that land in the territory of ‘Loughogou’ (prob. PEB), which he perambulated in the presence of William of Moray and Richard de Moreville and other responsible men, by stated bounds, with all its pertinents and easements, in pure and perpetual alms, free and quit from all service, exaction, custom and secular demand.

- The Bannatyne Club edition of the Newbattle Registrum places this series of charters in a section on the county of Edinburgh. Black suggests that ‘Lochogov’ may have been Portmore Loch in Peebles-shire, and other evidence suggests that the family were based in the parish of Eddleston, and that the progenitor Edulf gave his name to the town of that name. Note the place-names Loch Burn, West Loch, East Loch, and Loch Hill around Portmore Loch.
