Description
Arnold son of Peter of Kelso, for the salvation of his soul and all of his ancestors and successors, by the assent of Iveca, his wife, and his heirs, has given, granted, and by this his charter established to Kelso Abbey, in free, pure and perpetual alms, the messuage which belonged to his father in the villa of Kelso (ROX), a certain part of the land with the toft, croft and other pertinents, and three shillings to be received annually from Ralph, provost of Kelso, and his heirs from a certain messuage in the villa of Kelso and a certain part of the land in the villa of Kelso which belonged to Walter son of Heck and Ingebald. Additionally, he gave to the monks, in free alms, the land which he bought from Matilda Susanna and from her daughter, and from her daughter's daughter in the _villa_ of Berwick (BWK), namely that which lies between the land of Arnold, the Frenchman, and the land of William of Bernham. The monk may hold and possess the said land which by the removal of him and his father he obtained, and the monks will conduct a divine celebration for his soul and all of his ancestors and successors in perpetuity. Additionally, he gave and granted to the monks in perpetual the alms that messuage which lies between the land of Eustace, the dyer, and the land of Thomas son of Hugh with the pasture and all its other pertinents. As such John of Newton and his heirs, who hold the latter land from Beatrice, his daughter, will pay one merk of silver to Kelso Abbey for the said land annually.
