- Walter son of Alan, steward of the King of Scotland, for the salvation of his soul, and his lord, the illustrious King of Scotland, Alexander, and all of his ancestors and successors, has given, granted and by this his present charter established to Kelso Abbey, in free, pure and perpetual alms, his whole land in the territory of Innerwick which is found certain stated bounds, free and quit from every service, intersec and forinsec, and from every custom, exaction and secular and spiritual burden. Walter and his successors quitclaim in perpetuity twenty shillings and two pairs of boots which they released to Walter and his predecessors for the feu-ferme of the pasture of Innerwick (ELO). Additionally, he gave and granted to Kelso permission to strengthen their mill pool on his land. If the monk’s animals may go beyond their marches and come into Alan’s pasture the shepherd(s) of their animals will release one penny, and his shepherds will do the same for his animals.
