Document 3/495/3 (Kel. Lib., no. 219)

Description
Hugh of Redden, son and heir of John son of Hugh of Redden, on the ides of May in the year 1285, in the full court of Sir Richard, by the grace of God, abbot of Kelso, at Redden, has returned the whole land which he and his ancestors held in the territory of Redden and Hume (ROX) to his lords, the abbot and the convent of Kelso, by rod and staff, for a certain sum of money which the same lord paid to him in his great need, and he renounces and quitclaims all right or claim which he and his heirs had or were able to have in any land in the territory of Redden or Hume to his lords, the abbot and convent of Kelso. He declares all charters relating to the aforementioned devoid of strength, save charter which warrants a half ploughgate of land in Hume that he granted and surrendered to Kelso on the day of the present concession.
