Description
An inquest was made by Sir Alexander Uviet, sheriff of Lanark, by the king’s precept, and by the following jurors: Sir Robert of Berkeley, Adam of Folkerston, Malcolm of Biggar, Alan of ‘Bengou’, Thomas son of John of Machan, Thomas ‘Wer’ of Lesmahagow, Richard of Auchinleck, Gillemuire son of William son of Connell, Adam the reeve of Machan, Adam ‘Curtais’, Philip of Douglas, William [of] Lyne, Simon of ‘Hotun’, who say that they hesitate and doubt whether Henry of Wiston was a minor on the day when he granted to Hugh of Moray, knight, the lands of Sornfallow (LAN), ‘Hefshunt’ and Drumgray (LAN). After being asked again whether they believed that he was of lawful age or not, they said on oath that to the best of their belief that he was a minor under the age of 21. They were certain and secure that he was not vested or seised of said lands when he gave them by charter to Hugh son of Augustine, as the latter asserts. The said Henry was coerced by violence and by fear, and in prison, on the day when he granted the lands to the said Hugh.
