Document 4/11/7 (Melr. Lib., no. 226)

Description
A., rector of the church of ‘Balinclog’, makes known that discord between the church and Melrose Abbey concerning the teinds of the territory of Barmuir (AYR) has lasted for sometime, at length this brought to rest: the monks of the Melrose, in the name of the monastery, shall pay yearly to Balinclog 10s. at the feast of St James for good peace; and by this payment of 10s. Melrose will be exempt from all vexations and exactions concerning the teinds of Barmuir [due] to the parish church of ‘Balinclog’ (Clockston, AYR) and its rectors in perpetuity; and from all vindication of privileges concerning the teinds and whatever parochial burden. They shall pay to the monks 10s., but that as often as they surrender the land at feuferme, they shall be freed from the payment of the money. The land having been reverted to the hands of the monks, they shall pay the money for the time owed.
