Document 3/89/2 (Kel. Lib., no. 186)

Description
Hugh of Biggar son of Robert son of Waltheof of Biggar, patron of the church of Strathaven, has given, granted, and by this his present charter established, to Lesmahagow Priory in pure and perpetual alms all the teinds of grain of the land of Richard of Baird lying on the south side of the Avon (LAN), namely Greater Kype and Lesser Kype and Glengavel and Poneil and Lochar, to be as a simple benefice, free and quit from all service, custom, exaction and burden, secular and ecclesiastical. In return, the monks will deliver to the chaplain of the chapel of St. Bridget of Kype 20 bolls of meal per year. To ensure the security of the donation, Hugh gives a corporal oath to the monks of Lesmahagow in the chapter of Kelso in the presence of the faithful renouncing all aid and benefits of the law, ordinary and extraordinary, common and private, and especially that aid which he may have been owed at a young age (which he had for nineteen years) or the aid arising out of the need for his tutelage and care.
