- Thomas of Fulton makes known that he has come to an agreement with the abbot and convent of Paisley in this form: Brother Stephen, called abbot of Paisley, and the convent of Paisley, with common counsel and consent of the chapter, has given, granted, and by the present script established, to Thomas of Fulton, on account of a former sum of money which the monastery used, all the land towards the bridge of Cart, which Stephen Marischal once held of Paisley, and those two lands which Laurence, the carpenter, held while he lived, to be held by Thomas and Matilda until the land of Fulton, which Sir Anthony, knight, holds of Paisley, through his death or resignation, shall revert to Paisley, and which land of Fulton shall hold as contained in the agreement between them. Thomas and Matilda shall pay, up to the time written, 20s. for the lands, saving to Paisley from all the men living within the land the pleas of life and limb and blood-wite with its escheats, and saving the fishing at Lincleve, and power to repair or strengthen the lands as often as necessary. Thomas and Matilda shall make suit at Paisley’s court for as long as they hold these lands. If by chance Paisley wishes to go against this concession and donation, they will pay £100 penalty to Thomas and Matilda, before the lawsuit is entered or before it is heard at court. For greater security both parties subject themselves to the jurisdiction of the bishop of Glasgow, or the chapter if the bishopric is vacant.
