Description
Bishop Robert of St Andrews announces an agreement between the mother church of Ednam (ROX) and the chapel of Longnewton (ROX), made before him and Hugh [de Moreville] the constable, namely, that the mother church ought to have all its teinds and all the rights of Newton. The monks of Coldingham, to whom the mother church belongs, shall cause mass to be sung at the chapel three days a week and at Christmas, Candlemas, the three days before Easter, Easter, Rogationtide and Whitsun, and on St Cuthbert’s day they shall come to the mother church. Nor shall the mother church be harmed because of that chapel. But if the men of Newton forfeit anything of the teinds or the other rights contrary to their mother church because of the chapel, the divine office shall cease at the chapel until it is reconciled to the mother church.
