- Pope Celestine III has established by apostolic authority the churches of Dalton and Urswick (Cumbria), with the chapels and liberties, with teinds and oblations to the abbot of Furness and the brethren there. They may present to the bishop suitable priests, who may be answerable to him for the cure of souls and who perform episcopal rights, but may pay to the abbot the teinds and oblations and provide surety for the same. No bishops, archdeacon, deacon or their officials shall promulgate a sentence of excommunication, suspension or interdict without the judgment of the general chapter or synod, nor oppress them with tallage, hospitality or other exaction, except what has been determined in the Lateran council; if this shall happen, he shall decree it invalid. In the election of a bishop for the Isles, the pope establishes the liberty which their kings of good memory, namely Olaf and Godred, his son, conferred to the monastery as contained in their writings.
