- Pope Gregory IX writes to the abbots of Melrose and Dryburgh and the prior of Melrose noting that the abbot and convent of Dercongal (Holywood) have shown him a petition, concerning F., knight, of the diocese of Glasgow, in regard to his unlawful possession of lands, in which case papal judges-delegate had been appointed. The dean of Glasgow and his colleague had promulgated a sentence of excommunication against the said knight, being found contumacious. Because the knight persisted in his contumacy, the abbot and convent had obtained further letters from the pope by which the bishop of Glasgow was to admonish the knight. Concerning this, the pope had written asking for the help of the nobleman Alan of Galloway, constable of Scotland. He thus urges and commands the addressees to proceed with this business without delay.
