Document 2/139/72 (Dip. Norv., vii, no. 9)

Description
Pope Honorius III writes to the king of Man, noting that since Jesus Christ has raised him to the throne of the realm for this end, he should love and cherish the churches and religious foundations existing in his dominions, by stretching out to them the hand of his munificence both largely and cheerfully, and by performing in their regard other works of piety. It has come to the pope’s attention that in his realm there are certain churches, of which the king is the patron, which have no endowment of land, thus, the pope begs him to bestow, by way of free alms, upon each of them at least thirty paces of land in any direction outside the cemetery, upon which houses for the clergy may be erected.
