- Pope Honorius III writes to the bishop of Glasgow, noting that he has learned from letters of the dean and chapter of Glasgow that in a certain part of the Glasgow diocese there are certain savage people who need to be educated in the laws of God. But the bishop can provide no one, and has incurred a diminution of many of his possessions in the church of Glasgow. The dean and chapter, asserting that in those parts the church of Dryfesdale (DMF) belonged by right to the bishop’s collation, humbly prayed to the papacy that it would remain so for their own uses, through which the bishop might visit those people and inform them of the divine institutions of which they are ignorant. The pope willingly indulges this to the said dean and chapter, as long as he has a salary for the vicar.
