Description
Alexander Comyn, earl of Buchan, justiciar of Scotia, for the welfare of the souls of himself and Countess Isabella his wife, has given, granted, and established by his charter, to the six paupers’ prebendaries remaining at Newburgh in Buchan (ABD), a half acre of land at the (alms-) house and yard, which lie between the chaplain’s house and the town gate, who, for the welfare of himself and Isabella his wife and for all his deceased sworn men, will celebrate divine [service] in the chapel of Newburgh, in pure and perpetual alms, and four chalders and fourteen bolls of oatmeal annually from his mill at Forvie (ABD) from the baillie of Slains (ABD). He also grants 18s. annually on St Martin’s Day from the rents of Newburgh from the grieves. Moreover, he grants to the same paupers, common pasture for six cows in the territory of Newburgh, and sufficient sustenance in peat from the same place, with free entrance and exit in perpetuity. He obligates himself and his heirs and successors to the jurisdiction of the bishop of Aberdeen, who may subject them to ecclesiastical censure and compel them to observe the said alms and support.
