- Malcolm, earl of Lennox, has granted and established by his charter to Paisley Abbey, for their future peace and quiet in perpetuity, on account of the devotion that he held towards them, that neither his serjeants nor any of their men will take poinds from them for his benefit, nor seize any of the goods of the monks' men staying on his lands in Lennox, in his name or by his authority, nor shall they enter their lands to cause trouble, nor shall they pass the night there, nor shall they seize, demand, or extort anything by any other means from the monks' men. If any of his men should violate this grant and confirmation in any of the foregoing terms, he shall harshly punish him with penalty of money or body; and he shall compel the offender, notwithstanding, properly to make satisfaction both to the monks as well as to their men against whom he has offended, within 20 days at the church of (Old) Kilpatrick, the injuries and damages having been proved both by the oaths of the Earl’s men as well as of monks’ men.
