Description
Prior John and convent of St Andrews to pope; following death of Sir G[amelin] and his burial in church, he and chapter, wishing to provide their widowed church with a shepherd, and having obtained king's assent, established a day, that is, Wednesday on morrow of SS Marcel and Peter the martyrs, 1271, in cathedral church, to choose a shepherd. They have granted power to six of their canons, namely 'N.', and a seventh, the archdeacon of Lothian, to choose a suitable person as their bishop and they agreed that Master W[illiam] Wishart, their archdeacon and chaplain of pope, be elected as their bishop and shepherd
