- King Alexander II for Coldingham Priory; has granted that they may be free from all toll on their own chattels and merchandise through his land. He prohibits anyone from infringing up on this, on pain of his full forfeiture, as charter of King William, his father, bears witness.

This charter marks a watershed in Alexander's kingship. At some point between 10 July (1/7/63) and 21 July (1/7/64), 1222, the plural of majesty was adopted and hitherto applied systematically to his charters. His clerks had already adopted the use of the regnal year, in addition to the extant use of month and day, by 20 April 1222.
