- Description
- King Alexander II for Joan, eldest sister of Sir Henry, king of England, his spouse; has granted in dower £1,000 of land, namely, Jedburgh (ROX), Hassendean (ROX), Lessudden (ROX), together with Kinghorn in Scotia (FIF) and Crail (FIF). If these lands are worth less than £1,000, deficit is to be made up elsewhere in a suitable place; and should the queen his mother (i.e., Ermengarde) survive the king and be unwilling to confer her lands of Kinghorn and Crail on Joan in dower, the deficiency is to be met by king's heirs in castles and castleries of Ayr, Rutherglen and Lanark, and in sheriffdom of Clydesdale, until Kinghorn and Crail become available on his mother's death.
