Document 2/45/1 (Moray Reg., no. 48)

Description
Roger the dean, and the chapter of Lincoln cathedral, to the chapter of the church of Moray; they have received Freskyn the dean and Andrew the chancellor of Moray, who came with open letters from the chapter, from which, and by examination of the charter of Brice, bishop of Moray, founder of the church of Moray, the dean and chapter of Lincoln have ascertained that Bishop Brice constituted eight canons in Holy Trinity church, Spynie, and for their upkeep alloted eight prebends to it; when he had assigned the canons and prebends to it, Bishop Brice constituted that church to enjoy all the same dignities, liberties and immunities that the church of Lincoln, its canons and prebends are known to enjoy; since the chapter of Moray do not have sufficiently full knowledge of the dignities, liberties, immunities, and customs of Lincoln cathedral, its canons and prebendaries, the chapter of Moray has taken the trouble to send the dean and chancellor to inquire into these things more carefully, requesting that the chapter of Lincoln may inform them about these things, through these messengers and the chapter of Lincoln’s letters; having considered with the brethren the things about which the messengers asked and appeared to be unsure, they gave a certain and definite response, faithfully and truthfully answering each point the messengers came up with; they also provide verbatim a confirmation and indulgence of Pope Alexander (III), and charters of Robert (de Chesney), the first Hugh (of Avalon), and William (de Blois), their bishops.
