Robert of Paxton, master

Biography
One of four clerks (not styled Master) given permission by King Henry to leave Oxford despite general prohibition against such departures by the papal legate on 23 Apr. 1238. Robert who as son of Adam of Paxton was a party to a lease of some Tweed fishings with effect from 11 Nov. 1236 (ND, no. 358, where names of his brothers [including another Robert] and sisters are given) as Master this Robert of Paxton occ. twice in Scotland, as witness of a charter of Robert Bisset lord of Upsettlington (now Ladykirk) on the Tweed opposite Norham to Kelso Abbey, prob. late 1230s (Kel. Lib. i, no. 195), and as witness of another grant to same abbey, 1250-1 (ibid., 118). (Watt, _Grad._, 440, 370)
