Adam of Maxton, abbot of Melrose (fl.1260-67)

Biography
Watt and Shead, Heads, 150, 160: Adam was cellarer of Melrose when he succeeded as abbot of Newbattle on 22 January 1260. He was elected abbot of Melrose and installed on 1 August 1261. He was deposed in 1267. Adam was cellarer at Melrose, succeeding to William, abbot of Newbattle, on 22nd January 1260. He was elected abbot of Melrose and installed on 1 August 1261. He was deposed at the Cistercian general chapter in 1267 after himself deposing the abbot of Holm Cultram without the Chapter’s authority. (Chron. Mel.)
