Herbert Maunsel, abbot of Kelso (fl.1221-39)

Biography
Watt and Shead, Heads, 122: Herbert was a sacristan of Kelso when he succeeded as abbot of Kelso in 1221. He occurs on 7 April 1236 and resigned on 8 September of that year, upon which Hugh (d.1248) succeeded to his position as abbot. Herbert was forced by Otto, papal legate, to resume his abbacy, which he did - only to resign a second time on or before 8 October 1239, when Hugh was once again elected to succeed him.
