Richard of Whitton, master

Biography
Watt, Graduates, 597: Richard of Whitton (Wytton, Wontoun) probably took his name from Whitton (ROX). He was Master by 1274 and held the church of Sowerby (Cumberland) before March 1286 and resigned that church on admission to the church of Hawick (ROX) before 20 April 1294. He is first found as Master witnessing a charter for Soutra Hospital (1251×74), and is later in the familia of Bishop William of St Andrews. He travelled to England for Bishop William Fraser in 1288 and swore fealty to Edward I in 1296. He died after this date, and the church of Hawick was presented to an English clerk in August 1297.
