Eugene III, pope (d.1153)

Biography
Kelly, Oxford Dictionary of Popes, 172-73: Eugene was born Bernardo Pignatelli at Pisa and was probably prior of S Zeno, Pisa, in 1128 and was administrator of the see in the late 1130s, when he became a Cistercian monk. At the time of his election, on the day of Lucius II's death, he was abbot of SS. Vincenzo and Anastasio, outside Rome. He was consecrated at Farfa, north of Rome. He died at Tivoli on 8 July 1153 and was buried in St Peter's next to Gregory III. He was beatified in 1872 by Pius IX, with a feast day on 8 July.
