Walter Stewart, earl of Menteith (d.c.1293)

Biography
Walter was the younger son of Walter, son of Alan (d.1241). He had an elder brother, Alexander. Walter married Mary, possible daughter of Maurice, the elder, earl of Menteith. Walter was the first member of the family to adopt 'Stewart' as a surname. He did not hold the office of steward. He was survived by his eldest son, James (d.1309), who inherited the office of steward. http://www.oxforddnb.com/view/article/49411
