Malise (III), earl of Strathearn (d.in or a.1317)

Medieval Name
Máel Ísu
Modern Gaelic Name
Maol Ìosa
Biography
Mael Ísu (Malise) was the son of Mael Ísu, fifth earl of Strathearn, and his wife, Matilda, daughter of Gilbert, earl of Orkney and Caithness. He was born around 1261. He was captured in 1306, sent to York Castle in November 1307 but was released in November 1308. He was, though, forbidden to return to Scotland until 1310. He married Agnes, possibly a Comyn, who was probably the countess of Strathearn involved in the Soules Conspiracy of 1318-20. With Agnes, he had four children and was succeeded in the earldom by his son, Mael Ísu. He died in or before 1317 and was buried in Inchaffray Abbey, which had been founded by his predecessors.
