Walter de Mortimer, dean of Glasgow (d.1270×71)

Biography
Watt and Murray, Fasti, 198, 418: Walter occurs as dean of Glasgow on or before 14 September 1250 and again on 23 May 1270. He first appears as official of St Andrews on 29 March 1240 and in 1242. Watt, Graduates, 419-20: Walter was an illegitimate son of unmarried parents, though he claimed kinship with William II count of Holland (1234-56), a family to which Florence, bishop-elect of Glasgow (1202-07) also belonged. There is no known relationship between Walter and Hugh de Mortimer who was also dean of Glasgow (1221-35). Walter was Master by 1227×38, though certain called that on 28 January 1234/5. He was dean of Glasgow after 14 January 1246/7. Walter may have gone to the Roman curia after 24 May 1253, until after 21 March 1256/7. He appears back in Scotland, at Ancrum, Roxburgh, on 11 August 1258. He died May 1270×July 1273, probably May 1270×September 1271. He might have been Walter, clerk of Bishop Walter of Glasgow, who occurs between 1225 and 1232 or Walter, dean of Teviotdale (1227×38).
